Are You Ready to Throw Down for a Good Cause?

Young people across our communities desperately need a sense of belonging and self-confidence, and Atlantans can help make that a possibility in a mere 90 seconds this Saturday, September 26. The FitWit Foundation is hosting its third annual Pushup Throwdown: Pushup at the Pullman, their biggest fundraiser of the year, to help fund their flagship program, FitWit Club. FitWit Club is offered at a variety of middle and high schools in Atlanta, with a focus on schools labeled Priority and Title I. The organization plans to run 18 FitWit Clubs in 2016 that will reach approximately 450 students.

The event is being held at Pullman Yard historic rail yard, a 25-acre lot located in the heart of Atlanta with more than 100,000 square feet of empty historic buildings. Atlanta Contact Point is leading the charge to convert it from an abandoned industrial site to active play fields and indoor activity space.

This is a fun way to rally your office, gym, organization or family to support a great cause. And don’t fret if you can’t do a “real” pushup. Knees count too, so no excuses. Whether you can only do one pushup or 100 pushups, each one raises money for the FitWit Foundation. It’s an opportunity to gather in a fun environment and foster a little healthy competition with other Atlanta organizations.

And in case you can’t attend the event in person on September 26, you can still participate. Follow all the same steps of registering and getting sponsors, and post or email a video of you performing 90 seconds of pushups for your sponsors to see.

The party gets started with check-in for the throwdown at 11:30 a.m., and the competition kicks off at noon, but the fun doesn’t end there. The whole afternoon features a plethora of fitness related events and activities as well as food trucks. So bring the kids, family and friends to come cheer you on and enjoy the day at Pullman Yard.

What are you waiting for? Grab your Aunt Ruth, your neighbor, that copy guy from work and put a team together. Or don’t and just bring yourself. Whether you’re part of a team or not, get ready to throw down! For more information and to register, click here.
