Your Week in Wellness: December 29, 2014 – January 4, 2015

There’s still time hit some cycling, an aerobics class at the BeltLine, and a 5K in 2014. Hop to it! Or, you know, maybe just choose one. Then kick off your new year right by learning some new tricks in the kitchen, helping to stamp out poverty, and learning the fine art of swinging a kettlebell around. Lots to do this week! Check out the events.

Monday, December 29

The name sounds pretty awful but you’re bound to feel better after Energy Lab’s 6 a.m. Sufferfest Mondays group indoor cycling class. $20 to drop-in, but your first class is free. Newbies should arrive early to learn the basics.

Tuesday, December 30

Let’s get physical (physical!) at a 6 p.m. BeltLine Aerobics class at Historic Fourth Ward Park. It’s led by Young at Heart Fitness and is suitable for all ages and fitness levels. It’s free but registration is required.

Wednesday, December 31

Start a healthy New Year’s Eve tradition by running the Flashlight 5K benefitting Family Promise of Gwinnett. (Bonus: It’s a Peachtree qualifier.) This nighttime race encourages you to wear your “safe and tasteful” NYE finest. $35.

Screen Shot 2014-12-29 at 11.38.25 AMIf you prefer your 5Ks to include booze, then the First Day 5K at Red Brick Brewery has got you covered. The race doesn’t start until 1 p.m. — perfect for those who may have had a little too much fun the night before. Registration is $28 or $35, depending on when you register. Pay an additional $10 for a brewery tour and beer samples.

Friday, January 2

Start 2015 right with some new recipes and techniques at Sur La Table’s hands-on Healthy, Flavorful Cooking class at 10 a.m. The $69 class is limited to 16 participants.

Saturday, January 3

Another great run/walk option, the third annual Stamp Out Poverty 5K benefiting the Charity Benevolent Fund, takes off from Piedmont Park at 11 a.m. Registration is $25 before January 2 or $30 on race day.

Sunday, January 4

Heard of those kettlebell thingies but don’t know where to start? Extreme Performance Training Systems will cover the basics of the swing, clean, and press during their 4:30 p.m. Kettlebell 101 workshop. $50.
