Happy 2015, y’all! There are plenty of health and wellness events in Atlanta this week to help you get your new year started right. Check out this week’s top picks.

Monday, January 5

Three area Big Peach Running Company locations – Brookhaven, Midtown, and Suwanee – offer a Monday night Run Health Workout at 6:30 p.m. This free class focuses on drills, core, flexibility, and balance to make you a better runner.

Tuesday, January 6

You won’t find a Qigong class at most gyms, but Brookhaven Fitness Studio offers one at 7 p.m. This Chinese practice integrates breathing, physical postures, and focused intentions to control the body’s energy flow. Sounds kinda like a mash-up of reiki and yoga, but there’s only one way to find out! Use the code “3TWE” to get three classes for $20. They’ve also got kickboxing, TRX, athletic yoga, and more.

Wednesday, January 7

Check out onlYoga’s Warm Hip Opening Class at 6 p.m. It focuses on building strength and flexibility in the lower back and hips, which is great for weekend warriors or people recovering from injury. And it’s called “warm” for a reason – the classroom is heated to about 85 degrees. $18 to drop in.

Thursday, January 8

Join the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition at the General Muir for their monthly Bike Commuter Breakfast from 7 to 9 a.m. Meet fellow bike commuters, ask questions if you’re a newbie, and learn more about the Coalition.

Friday, January 9

Reinforce your resolution to “eat healthy” at Sur La Table’s hands-on Skinnytaste: The Lighter Side of Cooking class. The $69 class begins at 11 a.m. and is limited to 16 participants.

Saturday, January 10

If you’ve ever thought about raising bees, now is the time to get buzzing. Lazy B farms kicks off a six-class instructional beekeeping series from 9 a.m. until noon. The full-class series is $200 and registration is required. (Later this month, the Metro Atlanta Beekeepers Association’s one-day short course is another option. It runs on January 17 from 7:45 a.m. until 5 p.m. and costs $95.)

Sunday, January 11

Ellipti-what? Your friends at the Atlanta Track Club are offering free one-hour test rides on the ElliptiGo, the new and seriously funky looking cross-training tool that we told you about in November. Riders must sign a waiver, be 18 years old, weigh less than 250 pounds, and register in advance. Test rides start at 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. The event is co-hosted by the Beltline at Historic Fourth Ward Park.
